I've been thinking about how to write a story about my current attitude towards 'young gamer's.'
I took Jackie's two Samoan boys camping with me. I've never been so disappointed with 'Children'. They remained well mannered with me, and there was no temper tantrums or anything like that.
It actually was a very pleasant Camping Holiday for me, and should have been for the 8 and 10 year old boy's too.
What ruined it, was the TOTAL ADDICTION the boy's have for Video game's and TV. I didn't make a fuss about it, and actually gave them a portable DVD player eventually, to stop them from Whining about there being, 'Nothing to DO'.
Of course there was plenty to do. I had game's, baseballs and mitt's. Frisbee's to throw, I even taught them how to shoot a Wrist Rocket/sling-shot at rodent's. They had total freedom, and every type of delicious food ready for the taking.
Surprisingly at the camp-ground, the oldest boy met another 10 year old girl.
This is where everything went STUPID.
The 10 year old girl SHAMED the 10 year old Boy. She made him look like a 5 year old with a mental handicap. Oh this was so BAD, and I tried to help him deal with his total immaturity, but after the girl threw a rock at him and hit him in the head with it, He turned into a moody BABY. He started the rock throwing game, but didn't think about what would happen if he didn't obey the rule's for throwing rock's and ran out into the field just as the girl was throwing her rock, and she was aiming for the target. I saw what happened.
The Boy, doesn't understand what it mean's to take turn's, despite being warned by me to WAIT, till everyone was done throwing rocks at the target, before counting his point's. He ran out to the goal, and had a very small rock softly hit his head.
I know it had to hurt him, but he didn't cry. He just refused to speak to anyone after his mistake in not obeying the rule's of the game. He seemed to think I should have punished the girl for hurting him. ( NEVER, when he was the one at fault for his pain. He didn't like the consequences of HIS ACTIONS.)
Nobody laughed at him ether. The girl even apologized to me as his mother for hurting him.

I took him aside to explain to him that it is NEVER good to break the rule's while playing a game. His pain only happened because HE crossed a literal line in the sand, he knew he shouldn't cross, until everyone had thrown their rock's at the target.
A simple concept, video game addict's cannot understand, when they only live in a video gaming world.
No Pause Button or Resets in Real Life.
This is just what happened to make me think about how harmful Video game's are to young developing brain's.

Next chapter would be the 8 year old boy. Not as addicted to video game's as his brother. Normally my problem child, as he is totally 'Male-child' orientated, but for a change he was fascinated with all the fun toy's I brought along to teach them how to use. For my natural bourn children, They were playing with these toy's when they were 5 year's old.......
Now I'm teaching children twice that age to catch up, at age's 8 and 10. Basic survival SKILLS>
Jackie, and the real father, never actually play game's with him. The TV and video game's are his educational source and Babysitter/teacher. He had FUN with me, and in a way I think I was much more kind and forgiving to his little distraction's.[ADHD] I appreciate boy's who try to make someone proud of an accomplishment. The little man, made me proud actually, by how eager he was to make me smile and cheer for him while doing something totally NEW to him. an 8 year old with a sling-shot, he was in Heaven.
I eventually got bored with the older boys attitude, and found a really old pocket game of Yahtzee that ran on batteries, and taught him to play the game of dice... He brightened up a little but a half hour later, he was missing a TV so badly
. So I gave him a portable DVD player and put on a movie for him... and took his younger brother shooting.
The poor 10 year old boy thought I was being Unfair, because I didn't want to watch a movie with him, and chose instead to shoot rodent's with his younger brother. I gave him the Choice to watch TV or play with me. He chose the TV over joining his Step-mother and brother on a wilderness adventure. This nearly Pissed me Off. He was invited, but wanted to watch TV, and demanded everyone watch it with him so he wouldn't be lonely. Piff !!!! I have limit's to which I will go, and a boy of 10 year's old is not going to emotionally manipulate me into watching TV in a forest.
I didn't drive them into the mountain's at great expense to go camping; to watch him WATCH TV !!!!
He could have just stayed with his mother, to become a Zombie.
The second half of this Story is about a 10 year old Gypsy Girl I met while camping.
[ It will require a new post.... This girl is worthy of an entire chapter in my Story. ]
